Etiquette and Code of Conduct

The Ilorin Golf Club encourages the playing of the game of golf. For those players just taking up the game, and to remind the experienced player, the following regulations are in force for the general care of the course and the courtesy code.

Local Rules
  • Please observe the rules which are posted on the notice board and on the back of the scorecard.
Registration:
  • Every visitor wishing to play the course must sign the course register before commencing play. Green fees must be paid before commencing play.
  • All cards must be returned whether the course of the day was completed or not.
  • Beginners must be accompanied by a player with a current handicap or a professional golfer.
Marking of Cards
  • Caddies are not permitted to mark-up score cards.
Course of the Day
  • Player must play the course of the day (White markers for Professionals, Yellow for Men, Red for Ladies).

Men:
  • Tailored shorts are permitted and knee length socks are preferred.
  • Shirts must have collars and must be tucked into trousers.
  • Golf cap should not be worn back-to-front.
  • Jeans of any colour or tracksuits are not allowed.
Ladies:
  • Tailored shorts and skirts up to 4" above the knee are permitted.
  • Shirts must have collar and sleeves and must be tucked in fashionable. Sleeveless shirts are acceptable but must not have a gapping underarm.
  • Legging, mini-skirts, shorts and jeans of any colour must not be worn. shorts are permitted and knee length sock are preferred.

  • No player should play until the players in front are out of range.
  • Shirts In the interest of all, players should play without delay.
  • Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind to pass and should not search for five minutes before doing so.

  • Slow players must invite faster groups to play through. They should not continue play until the faster group is out of range.

  • Two-ball matches have precedence over and are entitled to pass any three- or four-ball match.
  • A single player has no standing, and should give way a match of any kind.
  • Any match playing a whole round is entitled to pass a match playing a shorter round.
  • If a match fails to keep its place and loses more than one clear hole on the player in front, it should allow the match following to pass.
  • Players in a competition shall have precedence both in starting and through the course over players playing ordinary matches.
  • Player must not cut in at any tees unless they have a clear hole behind and before them.

  • All caddies must be employed through the Caddy Master.
  • Please pay off your caddy before taking refreshment in the bar.
